EPL POUNDS VS PENCE 11 23/24 REVIEW
As you can probably tell by the title today I will be reviewing the two teams I selected at the start of the season. Link to the full article can be found below but the gist of it is I wanted to pick a team that cost half as much as the most expensive newly signed 11 and argue that they would be better signings/a better team when you put them together by the end of the season. With transfers working out approximately half the time I also will rate how many/11 signings have panned out so far for both teams to see whether money is better than sense.
The first grade given is from early season and the second after the season. With many clubs feeling the pinch of PSR or FFP spending less and spending more intelligently has become more important than ever. For example if the option is between midfielder A and B who have roughly similar stats and eye test the cheaper player will be rated higher on my grading scale. Also similar to my table prediction article where I said I was happy for this to be inclusive of injuries and manager change I have now realised I was wrong. One of the main reasons a transfer does not work out is that the manager doesn’t like them. If there is changeover this could mean a player either falls in or out of favour. Injuries of course can also affect the grade massively. All of my early season grades bar Timber who was already injured were reliant on the player being mostly fit which some of them were not able to do. This unfortunately cost me more in my Pence team than it did the expensive team. Is this coincidence I wonder? Something to think about for future transfers I analyse.
